Here are this week’s four questions.
#1. Brownies. From a box or from scratch?
#2. Chicken noodle soup. Does it cure everything? Do you make it from scratch, from a can or from a package?
#3. Red skin potato salad. Do you think the red skin provides flavor or color?
#4. French toast. How do you make yours?
Brownies. I make them from a box. Guilty as charged. There’s some really good brownie mixes out there.
Chicken noodle soup. Truthfully if I’m eating regular chicken noodle soup I’m probably making a can of Campbells or ramen noodles. When I am sick I believe part of my medicine routine is chicken broth (or boullion if you prefer to call it). For making chicken soup, I prefer a creamy chicken noodle soup, which I make from scratch.
Red skin potato salad. I think the skin provides color and a little extra flavor.
French toast. Bread, dipped in milk, eggs and cinnamon. Cooked in a pan. I generally use white bread. If I can find a loaf of Texas Toast I like that but the store doesn’t always have it.
Hubby;s contribution this week was the red potatoes question. Thanks honey!
Here’s what I learned from this weeks participants of Four Foods on Friday #11.
Kari has her own little cure for a hangover. She’s also prone to making deals with her husband. I wonder what his bad habit is…
Good ole blueyes stopped in again. She’s got quite an interesting chicken soup recipe, and she suggests trying french bread when making french toast. As of New Year’s Eve, she’s also gotten herself clean drawers.
Lori loves red skin potatoes and thinks they provide color and also thinks they provide color and flavor. She also mentions double dipping her bread when making French Toast. It has me wondering if she means dipping it into the bowl twice or something else. I’m intrigued. Lori has a great food and recipe blog, and she holds a contest every month for people that submit a recipe.
Madelein has never tasted brownies made from a box that she liked. She’s also got a plant called a delicious monster. Is that it’s real name Madelein? I’d like to hear more about that.
Elle offers an interesting way to make potato salad, and only makes chicken noodle soup from scratch. She also got a couple of nice pictures of fireworks a neighbor set off on New Year’s Eve.
Lynne and I were completely on the same wavelength this week. She’s got the butter thing going though. Lynne’s also looking for some software suggestions. Go help her out.
Skeet also loves the brownies that result from the Ghirardelli brownie mix bought at Costco. Those things rock! Skeet also gave a mini language lesson this week, I’m thinking it’s Hawaiian. A rare species was sighted near Skeet’s house recently, and she’s got the darned cutest picture of it up. Go see!
Evelyn is a new participant from Hawaii, and she’s pals with Skeet. Her post participating in this week’s meme was the highlight of my day. Thank you Evelyn.
Evelyn mentions a tv show called Mulligan Stew that was on when she was younger. I’m 41 and have been racking my brain and cannot remember it. Who remembers it? Let her know. Evelyn uses a little more egg when making french toast than I think I do, but I can certainly appreciate her reasoning. She’s also recently hosted her first carnival, and she did a wonderful job. Evelyn’s got some great pictures from around the island up that you simple must see. I really enjoyed spending some time at her blog tonight reading. Her style is nice and her posts have quite a bit of substance to them. Nice blog Evelyn!
EDIT. Karen arrived a bit late but we’re glad she wanted to join us! She prefers to use the same bread that I do when making french toast. Karen’s shared her recipe for homemade chicken soup. Also, another person who enjoys the Ghirardelli brownie mix. Postie heaven at Costco?! On an unrelated note, she also doesn’t like it when there’s a Wordpress upgrade. The last one I tried failed so miserably I almost threw up.
EDIT2. Welcome to another new visitor! Memegrl didn’t make it Friday but is still a welcome addition. She prefers to make french toast as a casserole. Memegrl, I’d love to hear more about that!
That’s it for this week. Thanks to all who participated!

I think Mulligan Stew was one of the PBS daytime shows for them to show in school — sort of like Sesame Street. It was for the school kids. I don’t think it was that popular because eating right wasn’t popular then. I’m 44 so maybe it was canceled by the time your grade got to it.
I’m sure the nutritionists of today would punch holes in it all over the place anyway!
Evelyn’s last blog post..Remember Mulligan Stew?
Evelyn, I’m 41. It might just be that my CRS is kicking in again.
Val, “ono” is the Hawaiian word for tasty or delicious. “Broke da mout” is a Hawaiian pidgin phrase that means pretty much the same thing but even better!
