BJ’s Wholesale Club – With Giveaway

I have not been a member of a wholesale shopping club in a number of years. Money’s always been tight for us and I never wanted to cough up the money for a membership if I wasn’t going to get lots of use out of it and save lots of money. When MyBlogSpark told me I could get a free 60 day trial membership to BJ’s Wholesale Club and that they’d give me $25 to spend I gladly accepted, knowing I had nothing to lose.

The free 60 day trial membership is currently available to anyone that has never been a member. Just bring the coupon in, the person behind the counter will enter you into the computer and take your picture and that’s that.

When you sign up for the free trial membership you will be offered the opportunity to get a full membership. Currently there is an offer for new members for $45, which includes a 14 month membership (2 cards – 1 for you and 1 for another member of your household), a member savings book full of coupons and rebates and “Sign up and Save” coupons worth $117 in savings. There is a 100% money back guarantee on the fee if you are not satisfied.

I went out this morning to run last minute errands. Before I went home I needed to find one or two last minute gifts and some breakfast treats for Christmas morning. I wasn’t overly optimistic that I’d find what I needed in BJ’s.

So on to the shopping. As it turns out, BJ’s has everything. They carry food, electronics, appliances, books, DVDs, toys, clothing, health and beauty products, baby care products, household cleaning products, office products, automotive products (like tires) and more. I was surprised to learn that BJ’s accepts manufacturers coupons.

I found a giant box of coffee stirrers that I grabbed. We like coffee stirrers and I can never find them in the grocery stores. Then I went through the toys and found a toy that I’d wanted to get for CJ at $20 less than I’d seen it elsewhere. I grabbed that. Then I headed over to the food area.

Ground beef. In the local grocery store on an average week it costs anywhere from $2.49 to $3.99 per pound for 80/20. BJ’s had 90/10 for $2.49 per pound. I much prefer the taste of 90/10 and I’m even able to make jerky with it.  That’s my idea of savings!

Working all day I frequently use frozen foods to help make a meal or serve as snacks. TJ can just about live on Hot Pockets. They’re usually about $3 for a box of two. BJ’s had a box of 12 for $8.99. Another big savings for me!

TJ’s other favorite snack is Pizza Rolls. I won’t buy them all of the time because they’re expensive. I usually pay about $3 for a small box with like 20 in it. BJ’s had a box of 140 of them for $8.99. Whoo hoo!

Over in the refrigerated section I found all kinds of things. I saw a Pillsbury “Big Deluxe” Chocolate Chip Tub that could make enough cookies to feed a small army. Or my 14 year old son. The item that really excited me was the string cheese. We all like string cheese. I usually pay between $3-$4 for 12 sticks. BJ’s had a package of 48 for $7.99. Big score!

BJ’s had lots of other food items too. This is just under half of the spices they carry.

I was super pleased with my trip to BJ’s. I’ve decided that I’ll be going back before my trial membership is up and moving to the 14 month membership. The savings is worth it. If you’d like to check out BJ’s for yourself there is a store locator at http://www.bjs.com/general/locator/index.
