Four Foods On Friday 97

Hi all!
Here’s this week’s questions.
1. What do you do with turkey leftovers?
2. How do you make split pea soup?
3. What do you like on top of your pie?
4. What kind of turkey do you usually buy?
My answers are:
1. We just heat it and eat it like always. Once in a while we also cut it up and make chicken salad.
2. I haven’t but am considering trying to.
3. Most of the time nothing, once in a while a little whipped cream.
4. Usually it’s a frozen turkey that I get free from ShopRite because I’ve spent a certain amount of money. I do wish they had a popper in them.
If you play please don’t forget to drop your name and link into Mr Linky so the other players know where to find you. Thanks!

1. Reheat and have as one more meal; freeze my own tv dinner from leftovers; remove the meat from the bone for my own chicken pot pie, a chef salad perhaps, with the small pieces going into my chopper for turkey salad.
2. Get out my big soup pot; add water and a bag or two of peas (my family prefers green); soak overnight if possible. Next step–put ham bone and meat into; add seasoning (pepper and whole bay leaf but no salt as the ham is salty already); add several stalks of cut celery; add carrots (peel and slice first obviously); add potatoes (peel then dice this time); chop finely or liquify then add an onion or two depending on the size of the onion. Last step–simmer on low–the longer the better stirring so that the bottom does not burn.
I use the same system and a crock if there is only a small amount of ham leftovers.
Beware of water amounts–too much makes for watery soup; too little makes for paste.
Note: No fixed measurements as my own mother never cooked that way and I learned by watching then if needed going to a cook book. Trial and error….
3. Usually nude but occasionally with real whip cream or good ice cream
4. Whatever is in the freezer. Sometimes it is one that hubby or one of the kids brought home for the holidays (sort of a bonus); other times it is what I got back for spending $$$ at my local supermarket.
Regarding poppers: Many stores sell them by themselves to be put into the turkey breast before cooking–inexpensive but really work.
I am in agreement with Pat on my answers and I will add:
1. Turkey enchiladas, turkey chili, turkey nachos, turkey and noodle/ turkey vegetable soup
2. Me, too! Watery soup will thicken in the refrigerator a bit.
3. Ditto
4. Usually frozen turkey with the best price
My post is up! This was a nice one.
Mine are posted. Would you consider putting a button that links to your page at the top of the questions? If you do that, when folks copy the post, the link to your page will automatically come.
