REVIEW - Dr McDougall’s Right Foods Ready-to-Serve Chunky Soups

dr mcdougalls ready to serve soups

I love soup. Usually in the middle of October it gets chilly and you will hear me start announcing that it is soup weather. I love soup but because of the time and effort it takes to make it from scratch you can usually find some ready to serve soups in my cabinet. The problem with many of them is that they are not gluten-free, which means CJ can’t eat them. When I was offered to try some new ready to serve gluten-free soup, I gladly accepted.

About Dr McDougall’s Right Foods Ready-To-Serve Chunky Soups

Dr. McDougall’s is proud to introduce new Ready To Serve Soups in seven delicious flavors ~ Lentil, Vegetable, Black Bean, Chunky Tomato, Split Pea, Minestrone, and Roasted Pepper Tomato. They are all natural, filling low calorie meals with fabulous flavor and convenience. All flavors are vegan and not too salty. No can opener is needed. They are great to bring on-to-go or enjoy at home for a tasty, convenient meal.

All of Dr. McDougall’s Right Foods are:

  • All Natural
  • Absolutely Delicious
  • Filling & Low Calorie
  • Heart Healthy
  • Vegan
  • Easy To Prepare - no can opener needed
  • Bisphenol A (BPA) Free
  • Packaged with paper sourced exclusively from FSC Certified Sustainably Managed Forests
  • Gluten Free & Organic Options
  • Fun to Eat!

Until now, carton soups have only been available in broths and purees. The new Ready-to-Serve Chunky Soups are the first nationally available carton soup with whole pieces of vegetables, beans and pasta.

I received a sample of each of the new Dr McDougalls’s Right Foods Ready-To-Serve Soups. Since surgery I am more mindful of what I am eating and what’s in it so I appreciated that they were all lower in calories, fat and salt than typical ready-to-serve soup. Since five of the seven (not the Minestrone or Split pea) are gluten-free I loved that CJ could eat the same food I did. The soups come in a large carton that offers 25 percent more soup than most natural canned soup brands. The soup isn’t think and watery - it’s sot some texture. Both RB and I were amazed at how much stuff was in the soup - they are absolutely loaded with chunks and vegetables! What the soup is not loaded with is preservatives - it is preservative free.  On the topic of chemicals, the soup’s packaging is free of Bisphenol A (BPA) concerns and is made from paper sourced exclusively from sustainably managed forests. Knowing how many cans my family puts out for recycling each week I appreciate that the cartons are recyclable and take less room than cans.  Chunky Tomato is both my and TJ’s favorite. RB’s favorite is the Black Bean. CJ seemed to really enjoy the Vegetable

The only thing we didn’t like about the soup is how it opened. You’re supposed to be able to pull the carton open. We both had a hard time opening the cartons and ended up having to use scissors. We thought that maybe creating a dotted or seamed line  or something making it easier to pull the carton open might help.

Dr McDougall’s Right Foods Ready-to-Serve Chunky Soups are available online from Right Foods and in natural foods stores nationwide and have a suggested retail price of $3.29.

I would eat them every day if they tasted as good as the packaging makes them.
