Ziploc, Healthy Lunchboxes And A Giveaway
valmg | Oct 07, 2009 | Comments 98
I’ve spent many years storing food – either packing lunches for my children and my husband or just putting leftovers away. When Family Review Network offered me the opportunity to try a new Ziploc product I gladly accepted. I received one box of Ziploc Sandwich Bags and one package of Ziploc Fresh Shield Twist ‘N Loc Containers for this review.

I was already familiar with the Ziploc Sandwich Bags. I switched to bags that zipped shut years ago after learning that things move around while being carried. Ziploc bags are sturdy and don’t seem to tear like some of the generic plastic bags. Ziploc Sandwich Bags are available in two sizes – 6 1/2 inches X 5 7/8 inches or 7 inches X 8 inches. I was not familiar with Ziploc Fresh Shield Twist ‘N Loc Containers. Ziploc Twist ‘n Loc Containers are reusable airtight plastic containers with ridged lids that screw on like those of a jar. The containers come in 2 and 4 cup sizes. Containers like this are great for anything you want to be sure stays fresh and doesn’t spill including liquids and powders. Neither of the products contain BPA (Bisphenol-A).

Ziploc and Taste Of Home have teamed up to develop an online recipe guide called Healthy Lunchbox Ideas. The guide is available through December 31, 2009 and is free if you enter 2 UPC codes from Ziploc products. My favorite recipe from the guide is the one for pizza biscuit bears as shown below.

Pizza Bisuit Bears (recipe and photo courtesy Taste Of Home)
These cute little bears, which get their personality from pizza toppings, are absolutely delicious.—TASTE OF HOME TEST KITCHEN
Yield – 6
Ingredients
- 1 tube (16.3 ounces) large refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
- 12 slices pepperoni
- 12 slices ripe olives
- 1 tablespoon chopped green
- pepper
- 1 jar (2 ounces) sliced pimientos, drained
- 2 tablespoons shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- 1 can (8 ounces) pizza sauce, optional
Separate biscuits; place six biscuits 3 in. apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Cut each remaining biscuit into six pieces; roll each into balls. Attach two balls to each whole biscuit for ears; pinch dough to seal. Decorate each bear with a pepperoni slice on each ear, olive slices for eyes, green pepper for nose, two pimiento strips for mouth and mozzarella cheese for furry
forelock. Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with pizza sauce, if desired.

The containers are great, stack, and inexpensive enough that I keep a stock on hand for freezing, packing snacks and food for a trip, and refrigerating or freezing leftovers. They come in many sizes, shapes, and varieties. Love the bags as well. Same old, same old commment here.
I would like to use the Big Bags. I think they would come in handy.
